ORACC NEWS YOU CAN USE
November 16, 2020

On behalf of the Oregon ACC Board, we hope this email finds you and your families safe and healthy.

As our Chapter continues to operate online for the foreseeable future, we want to make sure that our members are kept up to date about upcoming events and that our members are aware of all ACC resources that are available. Additionally, we want to share information from our Chapter sponsors that may prove valuable to you and your internal stakeholders. To that end, and to avoid clogging up inboxes, we put together a consolidated email highlighting upcoming events and ACC resources.

We hope you find this first issue of "ORACC News You Can Use" helpful. Future issues will be sent out once or twice a month. If there are any areas you would like to see covered in a future issue, or you have suggestions for future online educational or social events, please let us know! Your feedback is important and very welcome. We can be reached at accoregon@accglobal.com.

Reshaping HR During a Pandemic:
Now, Next & Beyond
by Amy Angel, Barran Liebman LLP
In March 2020, in response to COVID-19, businesses were being ordered to close, office employees were required to work from home, and schools were pivoting to distance learning. With everyone scrambling to adjust, HR leaders were trying to take care of the “now,” which included quick decisions on layoffs, furloughs, teleworking arrangements, hazard pay, permissible wellness checks, social distancing protocols, protected leave, and more. It is six months later and employers are still grappling with an ever-changing legal landscape of employment laws.

To help manage the balancing act of stabilizing operations and supporting employees, we look at Now, Next & Beyond. That is, what do you have to do to care of the now, what’s next, and how do you look long-term to prepare for the beyond? This structure can help you manage immediate needs, but also provide capacity to reshape your business, make key changes, and think strategically about where you want your business to be in the long run.

MULTI-GENERATIONAL DIVERSITY CLE HOSTED BY MARKOWITZ HERBOLD
On Wednesday, November 11, ORACC and Markowitz Herbold hosted an online CLE about the multi-generational workplace with former attorney and consultant, Jill Long.

Jill's engaging presentation demonstrated how each of the four generations now present in the legal workforce has its own unique styles, needs, goals and traits. She also walked us through how the external factors present in the timeframes attributable to each generation helped to form those unique styles, needs, goals and traits. It was interesting to see how the world we all grew up in impacts our behavior in the workplace. Through the use of stories and online polling, Jill illustrated how each generation can view the same situation and come out with very different results.

Thank you to Markowitz Herbold and Jill Long for sharing this fascinating glimpse into the different generations with our Chapter--we look forward to more events with the firm next year!
